This is the first carve on the second block for this print. The initial carves on reduction woodblocks always take the longest. Successive carves are merely removing small areas to expose the previously printed color. Usually, there isn't as much detail carved on an initial carve as on this one, but this block will be the fourth color run on print. I am hoping that this will be the final color run for the sky.
I use the original watercolor as a road map to my values and color. I have carved away the brights or sunlit areas of the image. I plan to print a split color with a cool sky blue at the top and a grayer blue on the bottom half.
