Getting to Work

Getting to Work
The mountain studio is slowly taking shape. A few warm dry days helped out so I could reinforce the tent roof so the afternoon rain showers won’t pool up in the low spots.

The first print runs in the studio were for a new woodblock of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains with some sandhill cranes in the foreground. The 16 x 7” block shown will serve as the color study for the large 16 x 20” final woodblock of the same scene.

The painting in the background is an oil sketch which I am using as the model for the woodblock. The oil sketch was from a early spring day sketch north of the San Luis Lakes in Southern Colorado.

I installed some solar lights in the studio which allows me to work into the evening after the sun has set. There is something wonderful about being lost for a couple of hours in carving a woodblock.
