I decided I needed a dedicated space for printing at the mountain cabin instead of the old space on the porch. It is hard to handle paper in a breeze. So, I assembled the temporary studio, a pop-up event tent complete with window walls for great light. It is situated where the new garage/studio will eventually be built over the summer.

A big family dinner to celebrate opening the cabin up for the summer was canceled because of the pending snowstorm. When we drove up Saturday afternoon, there was some 18” of snow and a winter wonderland. Humm, is this May of February.

Sadly, the pop-up tent wasn’t designed for that much snow and we found it crumpled under a mound of white. Sunday’s project was to dig it out and assess the damage. The metal posts were folded at the upper joint and, amazingly, the velcro never released and didn’t release against all that weight.

I recruited one of our guests and we trudged up the hill through a foot of wet snow to cut down some thin lodge pole pines. We drug them down the hill, sized them for the tent posts, cross bars and some diagonals. I was surprised how quickly the assembly went, but then, suddenly it was 3pm and time for our visitors to head down the mountain

Monday saw the roof and peak support go up with time for a watercolor sketch. The walls went up quickly as a rain storm was starting to blow in. With the summer studio assembled and sealed up, it is time for a load of art materials and woodblocks to be delivered.
