The image is from the Gorge Songs Series and was a small woodblock used on the title page of Folio Four.  I have loved the mood in the piece and have always wanted to develop it into a larger woodblock.

Bishop's ChapelWoodblock, Looking back.  A brief look at the reduction woodblock process of creating "Bishop's Chapel".  The process starts by transferring a drawing onto the block which is then carved incrementally, printing a color between each carving. This carve/print process is repeated for each color variation until the image eventually comes together.   Using the Japanese method of printing, I am able to focus on and print segments of the block. This segmentation allows me to develop the value and color progressions that establish form and mood within the image.

It's A Small World Isn't it odd how small our world can be.  I have been posting progress on the woodblock "La Sauces" which is destined for an exhibit at the  Brinton Museum in Wyoming. Then one evening the phone rings and I am getting a snarky response ready for a solicitor when I answer. But no, it was someone calling to say they have the original pastel and were excited to see the woodblock evolving. Well, I was glad I showed some restraint when answering and  was so surprised as the pastel had sold out of a Colorado gallery...
